«The EU remains firmly committed to the two-state solution» and «Gaza is an integral part of a future Palestinian state». This is the Commission’s response to US President Donald Trump’s statements on the Gaza Strip and the forcible displacement of its residents.
«We note the comments of President Donald Trump. The EU remains firmly committed to the two-state solution, which we believe is the only path to long-term peace for Israelis and Palestinians. Gaza is an integral part of a future Palestinian state», replied Anwar El Anani, Spokesperson of the Commission on foreign policy matters, when asked to comment on the US President’s statements.
The same spokesperson pointed out the EU’s position that «both Israelis and Palestinians deserve peace» and that the ceasefire is a positive development, but further steps will be needed to allow for a definitive end to hostilities and stability and peace in the region. Moreover, El Anani recalled that among the five key conditions set by the President of the Commission in November 2023 for Gaza, is that Gaza is an essential part of the future Palestinian state and that there should be no further forced displacement of Palestinians.
