The European Commission recommended today that Portugal ensure adequate human resources for the judicial system, particularly judicial staff, and improve the effectiveness of procedures, especially in combating corruption, a report disclosed.
According to a report on the Rule of Law in EU countries, disclosed today by the European executive, Portugal “has made some progress” in the adequacy of human resources to the judicial system, but it is still not enough.
Therefore, the European Commission recommended that the country increase judicial staff and all necessary human resources and continue to “improve efficiency, particularly of administrative courts.”
The country also needs to advance with “measures to ensure the adequacy of criminal legislative procedures to effectively deal with complex criminal processes,” and also “continue efforts made to ensure sufficient resources to prevent, investigate, and suppress corruption, namely for the new Anti-Corruption Mechanism.”
The executive of Ursula von der Leyen also wants Portugal to ensure the “monitoring and verification” of mechanisms for the Transparency Entity.
