Sarajevo, (Fena)  – The European Union Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Embassy of Sweden and the International Labour Organization (ILO) presented today in Sarajevo sixteen new projects aimed at employing people facing multiple barriers in BiH.

At the event titled “Knowledge Exchange – Making the World of Work Inclusive: Providing Integrative Support to People Distant from the Labour Market” it was highlighted that the expected outcomes of the projects are the employment of 625 people from target groups, inclusion of at least 1,250 unemployed persons, inclusion of at least 800 Roma in labor market awareness initiatives, and the implementation of at least five innovative employment programs.

The Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in BiH Ambassador Luigi Soreca stated that he is aware that the number of people covered by the projects is just a drop in the ocean, but still a slightly larger drop.

– Bosnia and Herzegovina needs a national employment strategy and I urge the authorities to adopt it, and the EU is ready to provide support in these activities – said Soreca.

The Ambassador of Sweden to BiH Helena Lagerlof emphasized that her country actively supports employment and the improvement of working conditions in BiH as they consider it important for the country’s development.

The Coordinator of the International Labour Organization in BiH Lejla Tanović stated that the aim of the projects is to improve the socioeconomic situation of young people, women in rural areas, persons with disabilities, Roma and long-term unemployed persons.

The event was organized within the framework of the EU4Employment project funded by the European Union with four million euros and Sweden with one million euros, and implemented by the International Labour Organization in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aforementioned 16 new projects, grant recipients who have already started implementing employment interventions in July 2024, include public employment services, educational institutions, social partners, non-governmental organizations, municipalities, and other labor market actors in BiH who will, in the coming period, work on shaping future employment strategies and actively involving individuals who are distant from the labor market.
