Brussels – In Brussels on Wednesday, the final round of discussions took place within the framework of the strategic dialogue on the automotive industry, with a representative of the Association of the Automotive Industry (AutoSAP) attending the meeting for the Czech Republic. The discussion was led by Commissioner for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy Stéphane Séjourné, and the focus was on battery production in Europe and the industrial value chain, European Commission spokesperson Lea Zuberová said in response to a query from ČTK.
The strategic talks on the future of the automotive industry were launched by the European Commission on January 30. The discussions were attended by 22 key players from the automotive sector at that time, for example from companies like Renault, Volvo, Volkswagen, or Valeo, the union executive stated. Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas was simultaneously tasked with drawing up an action plan for the automotive industry, which is expected to be released on March 5.
The last round of discussions was held on Wednesday, February 19. According to ČTK sources, Czechs were not represented in previous rounds of negotiations, but an AutoSAP association representative attended the Wednesday afternoon meeting.
“The attendees discussed how they could stimulate demand for batteries manufactured in Europe, what the best cooperation between battery manufacturers would be, and how the European Critical Raw Materials Act and the planned strategic projects could be used to diversify the supply of these raw materials and what role recycling could play,” summarized the European Commission spokesperson.
