Bratislava – The village of Vojka nad Dunajom in the Dunajská Streda district received EU funds as part of a cross-border cooperation project aimed at preventing natural disasters. In addition to educational activities and exercises, it also includes the reconstruction of the fire station and the procurement of material and equipment for the voluntary fire brigade. The mayor of the village Donald Álló informed TASR about this.
The project is implemented within the framework of the Interreg Hungary-Slovakia program. The total budget of the project is 73,424 euros, with eight percent of the total eligible expenses being co-financed. The main goal is to prepare civilian volunteers to handle natural disasters (storms, floods) due to climate change.
“To develop cooperation, formal and informal networking, the project partners organize various trainings, cross-border joint exercises, and competitions,” the mayor explained.
According to him, special emphasis is placed on deepening the knowledge of local rescuers and reaching out to the population, especially young people, with the primary goal of prevention and recruitment into organizations.
The main partner of the project is Arrabona EGTC from Győr, and on the Slovak side, besides the village of Vojka nad Dunajom, partners include the town of Šamorín, the village of Bodíky, and the village of Horný Bar. (December 22)
