The former chairman of the National Assembly (NS) Rosen Zhelyazkov was the leader of the GERB-SDS’s EP list.
On June 11, the CEC published results with 100% processed sectional protocols from the European Parliament elections on June 9. Bulgarian citizens elected 240 representatives in the 50th NS, as well as 17 representatives in the EP. This is the fifth parliamentary early vote in the country in three years, which coincided with the fourth EP vote since Bulgaria joined the EU. In the country’s history, the two types of elections were held simultaneously for the first time.
GERB-SDS from the political family of the European People’s Party (EPP) will have the most representatives in the EP – five, DPS will have three (member of ALDE and part of “Renew Europe” group), PP-DB, “Vazrazhdane”, “BSP for Bulgaria” (member of the “Party of European Socialists” and part of the “Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats” group in the European Parliament) – two mandates, ITN will have one place in the EP. One of the parties in the PP-DB coalition – “Democrats for Strong Bulgaria”, is a member of the EPP, and another – “Yes, Bulgaria”, will apply to join the same European political family. PP is not yet a member of any political group. “Vazrazhdane” also did not have representatives in the European Parliament until now and does not belong to a European political family, but they have an invitation from “Identity and Democracy”.
The Bulgarian MEPs so far were seven in the EPP, in the group of Socialists and Democrats – four, in “Renew Europe” – three, in “European Conservatives and Reformists”– two and one independent. (June 13)
