Skopje – The EU Delegation in Skopje announced that the new EU ambassador, Greek diplomat Michalis Rokas, has arrived in the country today.
– Today we welcome the new EU ambassador to North Macedonia, Michalis Rokas, stated on the Facebook profile of the EU Delegation.
Rokas replaces the EU ambassador David Geer.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in April, this year officially nominated Rokas as the new ambassador of the European Union to North Macedonia. Before his current appointment, Rokas was the head of the EU Delegation in Malaysia, a position he held since December 2020.
He has 30 years of experience in foreign affairs, joining the Directorate-General for External Relations of the European Commission in 1994. He has been the Chargé d’affaires of the EU and head of the Delegation in New Zealand, and head of the Support Department for Delegations at the European External Action Service (EEAS).
Rokas was born in September 1964 in Athens. He holds a degree in economics and postgraduate studies in European economics. Besides his native Greek, he speaks English, French, and German. (September 3)
