BRUSSELS – The MEP from the PCP, João Oliveira, questioned the European Commission today about the difficulties faced by winegrowers in Portugal, also asking for information on the means available to help the sector in difficulties.
In a question sent today to the community executive and to which Lusa had access, Oliveira questions what means can be mobilized “to support wine producers in Portugal, especially small and medium producers”.
The MEP considers that the issue is that producers cannot sell their grapes and the Portuguese market imports raw material from other countries, asking the Commission to review the reforms in the Common Organization of the wine markets.
The communist MEP also wants to know if Brussels plans to intervene in the process of liberalizing vineyard planting rights.
In July, Brussels approved the mobilization of 15 million euros for a crisis distillation in Portugal, to help the sector dispose of excess wine production. (05/08/2024)
