Bratislava – President of Slovakia Zuzana Čaputová will attend the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy on Thursday (6.6.) at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. She will thus honor the memory of the soldiers who contributed to the liberation of Europe in World War II. This was reported to TASR by the spokesperson of the head of state Martin Strižinec.
“Several European and world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, British King Charles III, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, will attend the ceremonial commemorative event at Omaha Beach,” Strižinec said.
According to him, President Čaputová’s partner Juraj Rizman, who will accompany her at the event, also accepted the personal invitation from the French President.
Before leaving for France, the President will give a special address related to the European Parliament (EP) elections on Wednesday evening after the main news broadcast RTVS News on Jednotka at 7:45 p.m.
The EP elections will be held in Slovakia on June 8. Slovaks will elect 15 MEPs for a five-year term. 22 political parties and one coalition are running. (June 5)
