Paris – The French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot deemed the Netherlands’ request to revise the association agreement between the European Union and Israel as “legitimate” and invited “the European Commission to address” the matter, citing the blockage of humanitarian aid destined for Gaza for more than two months.
“The Netherlands has asked the European Commission to analyze the Israeli government’s compliance with Article 2 of this association agreement with Israel,” Jean-Noël Barrot recalled, speaking on Sunday to public broadcasting and the daily Le Monde.
He emphasized that the relations between the EU and Israel are based on respect for human rights and democratic principles.
“I believe we need to put words to the reality. The reality is that Palestinians in Gaza are starving, they are thirsty, they lack everything, and the Gaza Strip is today on the brink of chaos and collapse, of famine,” he denounced, before mentioning an “incomprehensible attitude of the Israeli government.” (May 11, 2025)
