German Manfred Weber is expected to continue as leader of the EU Parliament’s largest party group, the Christian Democratic Conservative EPP.
Weber was re-elected on Wednesday, while Swedish Tomas Tobé (M) became one of ten vice presidents in the group. Tobé received the second most votes in the election, only beaten by Polish Andrzej Halicki.
In parallel, the parliament’s green party group elected German Terry Reintke and Dutch Bas Eickhout as their group leaders. Reintke is re-elected, while Eickhout replaces Belgian veteran Philippe Lamberts who left the EU Parliament.
Tomas Tobé was the first name on the Moderates’ list in the EU election. The Moderates became the second largest party in Sweden with 17.5 percent.
