Paris – Emmanuel Macron warned against the rise of “nationalists” in Europe, five weeks before the European elections, stating that they were all “hidden +brexiters+”, who take the continent “hostage” with the same “speech of lies”.
“The National Rally (RN) wanted to leave Europe, the euro, everything. Now it says nothing. It reaps the dividends of Europe while wanting to destroy it silently,” said the French president in an interview published Thursday by the British weekly The Economist, regarding the far-right French party.
Five weeks before the European election, an Ipsos study released Monday highlighted the difficulties of the Macronist camp – 17% of voting intentions – far behind the RN, which leads with 32%.
Regarding the nationalist movements, Emmanuel Macron accused them of taking Europe “hostage” and being all “hidden +brexiters+”. (02.05.2024)
