ZAGREB – The Croatian parliament on Friday voted in a new government which is led for the third time by Andrej Plenković, who announced that by the end of the term of this government, Croatia will reach 80 percent of the EU’s development average.
We want a successful, vital, fair, sustainable and sovereign Croatia, Plenković declared, noting responsible fiscal policy, economic growth, higher quality education, promotion of digitalization, and green transition.
“Given the current geopolitical challenges, these elements become more important than ever before,” he emphasized.
Mentioning the GDP growth projection of 3.3 percent this year, Plenković highlighted that this means Croatia is growing faster than the European Union average and that by this year, the conditions will be created to reach 80 percent of the EU’s development average by 2028.
Once it exceeds 80 percent, departures to other countries are exceptions, not the trend, he said.
He also said that just a small step is missing for Croatia to reach the highest credit rating of A.
He also announced an increase in the average wage to 1600 euros, and pensions to 750 euros, noting that their ambition is to promise less and deliver more.
Plenković has been mentioned for some time as one of the candidates for a leading position in the European Union, a fact that is further amplified by his leadership of his party’s list in the upcoming European elections.
However, he announced that he “will remain in the country for a long time,” with his goal to help his party win the European elections.
