In a bid to decrease dependence on Russian fossil fuels in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and disruptions in the global energy market, the EU launched the REPowerEU initiative in May of the same year. As the joint initiative just turned two, the European Commission released country reports tracking progress.
The European Parliament gave the green light to start negotiations with the Council of the EU to reform the Union’s electricity market. However, the Council is currently deadlocked due to disagreements, mainly between Germany and France, over the financing of nuclear energy.
COP27: Participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina stressed the relevance of action against global warming. According to the Rule of Law Index 2022, Slovakia fell two places. The only Slovenian nuclear plant is put back into operation.
