Brussels – EU ministers responsible for telecommunications discussed the Digital Decade policy program, cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union, and mobile roaming at a meeting in Brussels. Aida Kamišalić Latifić from the Slovenian Ministry for Digital Transformation emphasized the importance of quickly integrating the Western Balkan countries into the EU mobile roaming system.
The European Commission provided information on mobile roaming with EU candidate countries at the Brussels meeting. Kamišalić Latifić urged it to expedite procedures and explore legal options for the swift and complete inclusion of Western Balkan countries in the EU mobile roaming system.
According to the state secretary at the Slovenian Ministry for Digital Transformation, the Commission must also consider that competitiveness in providing electronic communications networks and services is fundamental for the digitization of industry and the overall competitiveness of the EU, especially in the context of pan-European operators.
Slovenia also advocates for the further development of cross-border, multi-country projects in the field of digital infrastructure and the upgrading of existing technological solutions into innovative, yet non-existent solutions, according to the Ministry for Digital Transformation.
It is also necessary to actively support the development and introduction of 6G technologies and other advanced technologies to reduce dependence on non-European solutions, Kamišalić Latifić added. (December 6)
